The 26th anniversary congress of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology was held in Geneva, Switzerland from 13 to 17 September. The congress played host to an array of dermatologists, dermatology researchers and representatives of pharmaceutical and cosmetics companies from all over the world attended . Biota R&D Center and the Department of Medical Ecology and Hydroclimatology (DMEH) of the Istanbul Faculty of Medicine (IFoM), Istanbul University attended the congress with a joint study which was presented by Prof. Zeki Karagülle and Prof. Murat Türkoğlu. In their presentation published as an electronic poster, they reported for the first time that two different aqueducts of Turkey's mineral thermal waters, believed to be some of the abundant natural resources of the country, possessed a property of preventing inflammation in terms of gene expression on cell cultures made of human epithelia. The medical significance of these findings in terms of scientific practice is such that that our precious spa waters can be beneficial for the treatment of many diseases as varied as acne, psoriasis and dermatitis. In light of this data, mineral water can be used for the development of cosmetic products or may be directly used in dermatology.
